Current status of the project
Now, in the project’s facilities, the researchers are harvesting the fruits, specifically the third cycle of tomatoes. This cycle was planted last September 9th. Afterwards, our researchers will study some parameters such as the percentage of dry matter in the plant and the total volume of production. Likewise, soil samples and the quality of the product obtained will be studied in the UPCT laboratories.
With the results obtained, the DESEACROP project (LIFE ENV/ES 000341 financed with European funds) aims to demonstrate that the sustainable use of desalinated seawater and hydroponic irrigation systems with drainage and reuse treatment are the solution to the water deficit in the southeast of Spain.
